A brief biog

I’ve always loved words, ever since the day I was told off by my English teacher for referring to a bright blue as an ‘eloquent cobalt’.  I’ve grown up a little since then, and my prose has got less purple, but hopefully no less eloquent.

I went to a French school and studied French and English at Trinity College, Dublin, so it should have come as no surprise that I eventually ended up living in France for four years.   As it happened, it was all the dog’s fault, but that’s another story. If you are interested, you can check out At Home in the Pays d’Oc on this blog.

Writing has been my life, both professionally – I’ve been a journalist, advertising copywriter and publicist – and as an enduring passion.  I have published two books about the Languedoc:  At Home in the Pays d’Oc and Tales from the Pays d’Oc, and a third, Murder in the Pays d’Oc has just begun on this very blog.

Another passion of mine is comic verse, since I grew up enchanted by the poems of Ogden Nash and the wonderful collection of limericks published by Langford Reed.  My own attempts can be found in Paw Prints in the Butter – comical verses for cat lovers – and The Little Book of Rude Limericks.  The comic poet Richard Patterson, who first appears in Tales, has graciously contributed some verses to the latest Pays d’Oc book.

Although I am a Londoner by birth-  and once upon a time by inclination – I am now happy to be living in Rustington, a small village in West Sussex, where Michael Flanders once encountered a gnu and the mobility scooter is king.
